23rd September 2006: A ride from Prestatyn

The ride started with a quick refreshment break in Prestatyn, then a weaving through the streets on to the Prestatyn to Dyserth cycleway using the old mineral railway line to avoid the busy A547. A quick right and left onto Maes Hiraddug resulted in removal of outer layer of clothing. A brief stop, then on to the first bridleway  past Bryn Cnewyllyn Farm through a boggy section past Marian Mill before returning to firmer ground  and tarmac on the lane from Trelawnyd to Rhuallt hill, passing the restored drovers watering pool at Glanllyn.

Leaving Ysceifiog in a southwest direction, a sharp left turn along a white lane, christened as nettle alley, led us through Bryn Coed wood and on a stony track reaching Lixwm onto the B5121 heading  for Brynford. A left turn brought us onto the bridleway passing Calcot Hall with a recently churned up surface resulting in a test of the riders handling skills on the decent to Babell road.

The remainder of the ride was on minor roads passing through Gorsedd and descending through  Downing to the refreshment stop at Aberkham Fabrics in Llanerch-y-mor. After refreshments it was short backtracking of the route, then onto the bridleway towards the entrance to the Downing estate lodge house then returning to the lanes via Rhewl Mostyn, Trelogan and Llanasa heading along the old byway to Gronant. Crossing the A548 towards Presthavens holiday camp a left turn took us along the Sustrans route through Prestatyn golf  course towards the car park at Prestatyn station.
